Each blank line you space out costs a character against the caption limit, which you can double-check with the Instagram DM character counter. How to add line breaks to an Instagram caption
- Write your caption somewhere you can see it properly — the notes app, or the box above. Do not compose it inside the Instagram post screen.
- Put a normal blank line between each paragraph, the way you would anywhere else.
- Paste it into the generator above.
- Leave the spacing character on the braille blank. Press Copy — the tool puts an invisible character on every empty line so the gap survives publishing.
- Paste straight into the Instagram caption field. Do not retype anything, and do not add more blank lines by hand.
- Post it, then open the live post and look. This is the step that catches a problem while you can still fix it.
- If the spacing collapsed, switch the character to the zero-width space, copy again, and repost.
- For a bio, paste into the bio field the same way and save, then reload your profile to check the spacing held.
Why Instagram eats your line breaks
Instagram strips lines that hold no content. When you press return twice, you create a line with nothing on it. The caption field treats that as nothing to display and closes the gap, so three tidy paragraphs publish as one block. This is not a bug and it is not new — it is how the field has always handled empty lines. The workaround is to make the line not empty. You put a character on it that occupies the line without showing anything, so the field has something to render and keeps the gap.
Which invisible character actually does the work
Here the advice splits, and the split is worth understanding before you trust any of it. The most-cited choice is the braille pattern blank, U+2800. Unicode classifies it as So — Other Symbol, not as a space. That is the point: if the field removes lines containing only whitespace, a symbol is not whitespace, so the line stays. The tool ranking second for this search uses thin space, U+2009, which Unicode classifies as Zs — Space Separator. That one is whitespace. Those two explanations cannot both be right — one says the trick works because the character is not a space, the other uses a character that is a space. We default to U+2800 because the reasoning behind it is sound, but we have not tested it against live Instagram and neither has anyone else publishing on this. When we run that test we will publish the result with the date, and change the default if it says to. Either way, the dropdown above lets you switch the spacer to a zero-width space (U+200B) — also not whitespace — if U+2800 ever stops holding for you. Where the spacing usually breaks
Four things account for nearly every failure. Typing directly into the post screen — compose elsewhere and paste, because the post screen is where breaks most often vanish. Adding extra blank lines after pasting — those new lines have no spacer character on them, so they collapse and the spacing goes uneven. A scheduling tool in the middle — some third-party schedulers normalise whitespace before they publish. If your spacing survives a manual post but dies through a scheduler, that is the cause. Editing the caption later — editing can re-normalise the text, so check the post after any edit.
Bios, comments and the caption limit
The same method is generally used for bios and comments, not just captions. The bio field is smaller and less forgiving, so test there before you rely on it. One thing to keep in mind: the spacer characters count toward the length. Each blank line costs you a character. On a long caption near the ceiling that adds up, and the readout above shows the count after transformation so you can see it.
What good caption spacing actually looks like
Spacing is not decoration. It decides how much of your caption gets read before the “more” link cuts it off. Put the point in the first line — Instagram truncates the caption after roughly two lines in the feed. Whatever sits above that cut is the only part most people see. Keep paragraphs to two or three lines on a phone, around 25 to 40 words; a block longer than four lines reads as effort and people scroll instead. Give the call to action its own line — if you are asking people to comment a keyword, do not bury that instruction at the end of a paragraph. On its own line it gets read, and typed correctly. Put hashtags below a gap, or in the first comment, which keeps them out of the reading path. None of this needs a tool; it needs the spacing to survive publishing, which is the part that keeps failing.
Does this break any Instagram rule?
No. You are adding a printable character to a line so the field renders it. That is formatting, not evasion. It is worth separating this from hiding keywords or links inside invisible text, which is a different thing and not what this tool does. Nothing here changes what your caption says or who can read it.

Why do my Instagram line breaks disappear when I post?
Instagram removes lines that contain nothing at all. Pressing return twice creates an empty line, and the caption field closes the gap when it publishes. Will this get my account flagged?

Does this tool send my caption anywhere?
No. It runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere or saved, and there is no email field or signup. You can confirm that in your browser’s network tab before you paste anything private, which is the only kind of privacy claim worth trusting.
