How to write an Instagram bio people act on
Most bios try to say everything. The ones that work say three things, in this order.
- Line 1, what you do: your role or niche in plain words. “Fitness coach” beats “Living my best life”.
- Line 2, who it’s for or what you share: the reason to follow. “Home workouts for busy parents”.
- Line 3, the next step: one call to action that points at your link, or a keyword to DM you.
- Optional: one credential, a location, or a line break to keep it scannable.
Keep the important words in plain text. Styled letters from a fonts generator look good in a header, but screen readers and search may not read them.

What to put in your name field
Your name field sits in bold above your bio, and it’s separate from your @username. Many creators add their niche there, like “Sam | Fitness Coach”, so the first thing people read says what you do.
- Keep your real name or brand first, so people recognise you.
- Add one niche word after a divider, such as a pipe or a dot.
- Use plain letters for anything people might search for.
Make the call to action do the work
Your bio link is one tap away, but a keyword ask can be zero. “DM me PLAN” or “Comment GUIDE on my latest post” gives people something to do right now, and every reply is a conversation you can answer with your link.
Instagram allows up to five links in a bio. If you use several, say which one to tap first. The guide to adding links on Instagram covers every option.
Asking people to DM a keyword?
BuzzWire replies to the keyword with a DM that holds your link, automatically. Free plan: unlimited DMs, sent within Instagram’s limits.

How many characters can an Instagram bio have?
150 characters, and spaces and line breaks count too. Every idea here fits inside 150, and the counter under each one shows its length. Emoji can count differently in different apps, so check Instagram’s own counter in Edit profile before you save.
What should I put in my Instagram bio?
Four things: what you do, who it’s for, one detail that makes it credible, and what people should do next. Keep it to two or three short lines. Put your link or keyword ask last, right above the link, so it’s the thing people act on.
How do I add line breaks to my Instagram bio?
Copy a bio from this generator and paste it into Edit profile; the line breaks come with it. If Instagram removes them when you type a bio by hand, use the line break generator to add breaks that stay put.
Should I use emoji in my Instagram bio?
A few help. One emoji per line can act as a bullet or a pointer to your link, and it makes a bio easier to scan. More than that starts to look busy. Turn emoji off in the generator if your brand is more formal.
Is this bio generator AI?
No. It builds bios from your own words plus short templates for your niche and tone, in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. That also means you should edit each idea so it’s accurate for you, especially credentials.
Can my bio ask people to DM me a keyword?
Yes, and it works well with DM automation. A line like “DM me PLAN for the free guide” gives people a clear next step. With BuzzWire’s DM keyword automation, the reply with your link is sent automatically.
