25 Instagram Comment-to-DM Templates for Fitness Creators
Comment-to-DM automation sends a follower a direct message the moment they comment a keyword on your post or Reel.
For fitness creators it turns a viral Reel into a delivered lead magnet instead of 200 comments you never get to. This page holds 25 automations across five sub-niches. Each is a complete unit: the post idea, the trigger keyword, the exact DM, and the follow-up that captures an email.
A Reel about protein timing does 40,000 views overnight. Two hundred people comment “PROTEIN.” By the time you finish replying by hand the moment has gone — and most of the intent with it.
Everything below runs on BuzzWire free, and everything below also works in any tool that does comment-to-DM. Copy what’s useful.
How Instagram comment-to-DM automation works
Three moving parts: a keyword comment triggers the automation, an automatic DM is sent through Instagram’s official Graph API, and the follower’s reply opens a window for a follow-up. The reply is a private reply to a comment — a message to someone who engaged with you, never a cold message to a stranger.
That third part is where the rules live. Meta’s messaging only permits automated messages to people who interacted with your account recently — the 24-hour messaging window. You can answer everyone who raises their hand; you cannot message people who didn’t.
Any tool promising mass DMs to strangers isn’t using the official API, which means it’s using your password. On account safety, that single distinction does most of the work. Setting up comment-to-DM automation takes about five minutes.
The one number to design your automations around
Meta’s documented Graph API rate formula allows 200 API calls per active user per hour — which, for a single Instagram professional account, reads most conservatively as 200 automated DMs per hour.
A Reel pulling 800 keyword comments in an hour cannot be answered inside that hour, whatever a tool claims. A queue paced inside the documented ceiling delivers all 800, spread out. A tool that fires all 800 at once is spending your account’s safety to look fast.
BuzzWire enforces the conservative reading as a hard cap on every plan, including free, and the caps are identical on Free and Pro — you cannot pay to send faster. For what the documented figures actually say, Meta’s rate-limiting reference is the source.
How to set up automatic DMs on Instagram
Five steps, about five minutes.
- 1Connect your Instagram professional account — Business or Creator — through the official login. Never hand a password to a third party.
- 2Create an automation: choose the post or Reel, set the keyword, paste the DM.
- 3Add spintax so no two messages are identical. Braces with pipes pick one variant per send.
- 4Set the capture follow-up if you're collecting emails.
- 5Publish the post with the keyword CTA written into the caption and said out loud in the Reel.
New account? Ramp up. BuzzWire’s warm-up runs 20, then 50, then 100, then 200 DMs per day across four weeks, because account age changes how much sending Instagram tolerates. You can read the mechanisms behind it in full.

Five writing rules that hold across all 25
Deliver the link in message one; vary every send with spintax; one link per DM and no shorteners; stay under roughly 1,000 characters; honour STOP immediately.
- Deliver in message one. Making people reply to get what you promised burns the intent you just earned.
- Use spintax on every send. Identical messages at volume are the clearest automation signal you can broadcast.
- One link per DM, no shorteners. Multiple links and shortened URLs both correlate with spam filtering. BuzzWire blocks both at the product level.
- Keep it under roughly 1,000 characters. That is Instagram’s per-message limit — front-load the link.
- Honour STOP. Anyone replying STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE should never hear from your automations again. BuzzWire handles this automatically.

One honest limit: BuzzWire captures emails, it does not send them — export to whatever you already use.
FAQ
Will comment-to-DM automation get my fitness account banned?
No tool can promise that, and any that does is claiming something it doesn't control — enforcement is Meta's. What you control is mechanism: the official Graph API rather than your password, sending inside the documented rate ceiling, a warm-up ramp on new accounts, one DM per person per 24 hours, varied message text, and honouring STOP. Those are the behaviours that get accounts flagged when they're missing.
Do people have to follow me for the automation to fire?
No — anyone who comments your keyword can receive the reply. Follower gating, which requires a follow first, is available on Pro if you want it.
What if someone types the keyword wrong?
Use a catch-all so near-misses still get answered. "PROTIEN" is a real comment on every protein post ever made.
How many keywords should one post have?
One. A second keyword in the same caption splits attention and halves both.
Can I use these templates in another tool?
Yes. Spintax syntax is common across tools, and the post-idea-and-keyword structure is tool-agnostic.
