Instagram carousel size (2026): slides, ratios and limits
The slide size to use, how many slides you can post, and a resizer that exports every slide at the same size.

Which carousel size should you pick?
- 1080 × 1440 (3:4): the most room per slide, and the first slide fills the grid tile.
- 1080 × 1350 (4:5): the tallest size Meta’s API accepts, so use it if you schedule carousels.
- 1080 × 1080 (1:1): text-heavy slides and checklists that need equal space on every side.
- Don’t mix sizes. Instagram applies one orientation to every slide and crops the rest to match.
How to make a seamless (panorama) carousel
A seamless carousel is one wide image cut into slides. Each slide must be the same size, so plan the canvas as a multiple of the slide width.
- 3 slides at 3:4: a 3240 × 1440 canvas, cut into three 1080 × 1440 pieces.
- 3 slides at 4:5: a 3240 × 1350 canvas, cut into three 1080 × 1350 pieces.
- Keep text away from the cut lines, because Instagram leaves a small gap between slides while swiping.
What the grid shows from a carousel
Your profile grid shows only the first slide, cropped to a 3:4 tile. Make the first slide work on its own: a clear title and one visual that says what’s inside.
Videos in a carousel play inside the post. Instagram’s Help Centre says they aren’t counted as Reels and don’t appear in the Reels tab.
Turn carousel saves into DMs
Educational carousels get saved and commented on. End the last slide with “Comment CHECKLIST for the PDF link”, and answer every comment with a DM.
BuzzWire’s comment-to-DM automation does that automatically for each comment.
Comment CHECKLIST, get the link
End your carousel with a keyword ask, and BuzzWire DMs your link to every person who comments it. Free plan: unlimited DMs, sent within Instagram’s limits.

What size should Instagram carousel slides be?
1080 × 1440 pixels (3:4) per slide, or 1080 × 1350 (4:5) if a scheduling tool posts for you. Make every slide the same size. Instagram uses one orientation for the whole carousel and crops slides that don’t match.
How many slides can an Instagram carousel have?
Up to 20 photos and videos in one post, according to Instagram’s Help Centre. They all share one caption and one location, and likes and comments count for the whole post rather than for each slide.
Can carousel slides be different sizes?
No. The orientation you pick (square, portrait or landscape) applies to every photo and video in the post. Instagram crops slides that don’t match, so export them all at the same size before you upload.
How do I make a seamless Instagram carousel?
Design one wide canvas that is a multiple of the slide width, such as 3240 × 1440 for three 3:4 slides, then cut it into equal 1080-pixel-wide pieces. Upload the pieces in order, and keep text away from the joins.
Do carousel videos count as Reels?
No. Instagram’s Help Centre says videos in carousels are not considered Reels, so they don’t appear in the Reels tab or get Reels features. Post the video as a Reel if you want it in the Reels tab.
