Comment-to-DM Keyword Planner

Choose the word people comment to get your link. The planner scores it, lists the misspellings to add, and writes the caption, Story line and DM to match.

In short: The best comment keyword is one short word, letters only, that people don’t write in ordinary comments, like GUIDE or MEALS. Add two or three misspellings as extra keywords, then use the same word in your caption, your Story and the DM.

Your keyword

GUIDE

  • Pass: 5 letters: quick to type on a phone
  • Pass: Not a word people write in normal comments
  • Pass: Letters only: no autocorrect surprises
  • Pass: No tricky repeated letters

Add these misspellings as extra keywords

People type fast. Adding a few near-misses means they still get the DM.

Caption call to action

  • Comment GUIDE and I’ll DM you the free guide 👇

  • Want the free guide? Comment “GUIDE” below.

  • Drop GUIDE in the comments and check your DMs.

Story text

  • Reply GUIDE to this Story for the free guide

The DM they get

  • {Hey|Hi} {{username}}! You commented GUIDE, so here’s the free guide: [your link]

  • Reply STOP if you don’t want messages like this.

{Hey|Hi} picks one word per send and {{username}} adds their handle. Use one link per DM.

How to choose a comment keyword that works

  • One word, 4 to 8 letters. Short enough to type with a thumb, long enough not to happen by accident.
  • Letters only. Numbers and symbols trip up autocorrect and slow people down.
  • Not a common comment. YES, LOVE, WOW and INFO show up in normal comments, so they send DMs nobody asked for.
  • Match the offer. PLAN for a workout plan, CODE for a discount. People remember a word that names the thing.
  • One keyword per post. It keeps the DM matched to the ask, and tells you which post worked.

Why misspellings matter

Comments are typed fast, often one-handed. A share of people will write GUIDS, GIUDE or GUIDES instead of GUIDE, or add punctuation and emoji.

Adding the likely near-misses as extra keywords is the simplest fix. Test the automation from a second account before the post goes live, with the keyword and one misspelling.

Where to use the keyword

  • Caption: put the ask in the first line or the last, and say what they get.
  • On-screen text: say it in the Reel or show it on the first slide.
  • Story: “Reply PLAN” works too, because a Story reply is a DM.
  • Bio: “DM me PLAN for the free guide” turns profile visits into conversations.

What Meta allows

A comment lets a business send one private reply to that person, within 7 days of the comment, according to Meta’s private replies documentation (checked 22 Oct 2026). If they reply to your DM, a standard 24-hour messaging window opens.

So the first DM should carry everything: a short line, your one link, and an easy way to opt out. The Instagram DM limits reference has every window and rate limit with sources.

Frequently asked questions

What is a comment-to-DM keyword?

It’s the word people comment on your post or Reel to get something by DM, such as GUIDE or PLAN. An automation watches the comments, and when it sees the keyword it sends that person a private message with your link.

What makes a good comment keyword?

Short, one word, letters only, and not something people write in ordinary comments. GUIDE or MEALS work well. YES or LOVE don’t, because they turn up in normal comments and send DMs to people who never asked.

Should I add misspellings as keywords?

Yes. People type fast on phones, so GUIDE becomes GUIDS or GIUDE. Adding a few common near-misses as extra keywords means those people still get the DM. The planner lists likely misspellings for any keyword you test.

Can I use the same keyword on every post?

You can, but a different keyword per offer is easier to manage. It tells you which post the request came from, and it lets you send a different link for each offer. Keep one keyword per post so the DM always matches the ask.

How many DMs can I send from comments?

Meta allows one private reply to each comment, sent within 7 days of the comment. After that, the conversation continues only if the person replies. Any tool that follows Meta’s rules works inside those limits.

Does the planner send DMs?

No. It helps you choose the keyword and writes the lines; nothing is sent and nothing you type leaves your browser. To send the DMs automatically, set the keyword up in a comment-to-DM tool such as BuzzWire.
