ManyChat pricing in 2026: what every plan actually costs

Every ManyChat plan, monthly vs annual price, contact limit and overage rate — checked against the pricing page and plan help docs, 7 September 2026.

ManyChat Pricing 2026: All 5 Tiers, Overages and Free Plan
On this page

ManyChat is the default answer when a creator asks how to reply to every comment on a post that took off. It is also the tool most creators outgrow at the exact moment it starts working — the bill is tied to how many people talk to you, and a viral Reel is a lot of people talking at once.

This page is the arithmetic — for the mechanic underneath it, start with our guide to comment-to-DM automation. Every plan, allowance and overage rate below was checked against ManyChat's pricing page and its individual plan help articles on 7 September 2026.

We build a competing product, so read the numbers rather than us. Every figure links to the page it came from, including ManyChat's own.

How much is ManyChat in 2026? Every plan and price

ManyChat bills on Active Contacts — "a real person you interact with during a monthly billing period, whether that happens through messages or automations." The counter resets each billing month. It is not the size of your audience, and it is not the number of messages: the same person counts once per month however often they write, and counts again next month if they write again. Deleting them does not reduce this month's total.

The marketing page leads with annual-equivalent prices. "$14", "$29", "$69" and "$139 per month" are real only if you pay a year up front. Month-to-month is higher, and it is the plan articles that say so.

PlanMonth-to-monthAnnual (charged once)Active Contacts / moChannelsMonthly overage

*Advanced help article: "or less with higher usage." Extra Inbox seats are $25 on Pro and above. Paid plans advertise a 14-day trial.

One caveat before the table gets quoted. WhatsApp template messages are billed as a separate meter on top of Active Contacts — Meta prices those per destination country, paid from a ManyChat wallet. That is irrelevant if you are Instagram-only, and material if you take the multi-channel advice below. And if your own invoice doesn't match the table above, you may be on an earlier version of ManyChat's plan model — it has changed its pricing structure over time, so check Settings → Billing → Subscription for what you are actually on.

What the ManyChat free plan actually includes

The contact number is only half the constraint. From ManyChat's Free plan help article, checked 7 September 2026:

  • 25 Active Contacts per month
  • Up to 4 live automations at the same time — the limit people hit first
  • A maximum of 2 connected channels, from Instagram, TikTok, Facebook Messenger and Telegram
  • 1 user and 1 Inbox seat
  • A "Powered by Manychat" line on the first DM you send a contact
  • No WhatsApp, SMS or email

The four-automation ceiling matters more than the contact count for most creators. A comment reply, a follow-to-DM, a story-reply flow and a keyword catch-all is four — a normal setup for one account, and on the free plan it is the whole allowance.

The previous free tier allowed 1,000 contacts, but that limit was cumulative and lifetime — contacts never dropped off, and once your account hit 1,000 total, sending stopped unless you upgraded. The current 25 is monthly and resets. Different shapes, not a straight cut: more forgiving for a quiet account, far less for one that has a big month.

ManyChat overage rates, monthly and annual

Overages apply on paid plans per Active Contact beyond the monthly allowance, and annual billing lowers the rate.

PlanOverage, monthly billingOverage, annual billing
Essential$0.10$0.082 or $0.08 — see note
Pro$0.05$0.038
Business$0.025$0.018
Advanced$0.004*$0.0028*

Essential's annual rate is $0.082 on the pricing-page comparison table and $0.08 in the Essential help article, both checked 7 September 2026. We have not resolved which supersedes the other; the worked examples below use month-to-month rates, so nothing here depends on it.

In practice: on Essential, contact 251 costs ten cents, and three thousand extra commenters on one Reel is $300 of overage on top of $17. The bill moves with how well the content did, not with how many flows you built.

Annual plans are billed a year up front — Pro's "25% off" is $348 charged once, not $29 a month. Contacts still reset monthly, and overage still bills monthly.

The three points where your ManyChat cost flips to a cheaper plan

Because overages are priced per plan, staying put eventually costs more than upgrading — and on the current model you pick a named plan, so nothing moves you automatically. Figures are month-to-month list price + monthly overage.

Above this many Active ContactsStop payingStart payingWhy
470Essential $17Pro $39220 extra at $0.10 already costs $22
3,700Pro $39Business $991,200 extra at $0.05 already costs $60
11,500Business $99Advanced $1994,000 extra at $0.025 already costs $100

Line chart showing where each ManyChat plan stops being the cheapest, with month-to-month crossover points at 470, 3,700 and 11,500 active contacts

The same arithmetic at round volumes:

Active ContactsEssentialProBusinessAdvanced
250$17$39$99$199
1,000$92$39$99$199
2,500$242$39$99$199
5,000$492$164$99$199
10,000$992$414$161.50$199

Pro at 5,000 Active Contacts is $164. Business is $99 flat for the same month. Two strong posts can land you there, and nothing in the product upgrades you.

Method: plan price + (contacts − allowance) × that plan's monthly overage rate. Reproduce it from the published rates.

Why per-contact pricing and Instagram comment automation pull against each other

Per-contact billing assumes each contact is worth roughly the same. That holds for a support inbox and breaks for a creator's comment section, where most keyword-commenters take the link and never speak again — and cost exactly what the ones who buy cost. The bill arrives on your best week. That is a fit question, not a quality question; our ManyChat alternative for Instagram page is the head-to-head, and this page is only the maths.

How to stop a ManyChat bill from surprising you

Staying on ManyChat is a perfectly reasonable decision. These five steps cost nothing.

  1. Set a contact limit — built in and buried at Settings → Billing → Subscription → Set your contact limit. It stops overage accruing past a number you choose.
  2. Work out your crossover before you need it. Run your busiest month through the tables above.
  3. Check the counter the day a post performs, not on the invoice. One outlier can move you two tiers and back.
  4. Price annual against your spikes, not your average — annual overage rates are lower, the opposite of the usual advice — and remember the year is charged up front.
  5. Count your live automations, not just your contacts. Four is the free-plan ceiling and most creators hit it first.

What ManyChat is genuinely better at

Most pages ranking for this term are written by someone selling an alternative, and they stop before this part. Four things ManyChat does that a single-channel tool structurally cannot:

  • More than one channel in one inbox. Free and Essential: any two of Instagram, TikTok, Messenger, Telegram. Pro: three, and this is where WhatsApp, SMS and Email unlock. Business and Advanced: unlimited. If your audience lives in two networks, that is not substitutable.
  • Automations stop being a constraint above free. The free plan caps you at 4 live automations; paid plans do not. A complex flow library is a real reason to pay.
  • Teams. Users and Inbox seats climb with the plan — 2 users / 1 seat on Essential, 3 / 2 on Pro, 5 / 3 on Business, 10 / 5 on Advanced, with extra seats at $25. That matters the moment someone other than you answers a DM.
  • An ecosystem. A vast body of templates, tutorials and agencies who already know the tool. Nobody smaller matches that, us included.

Manychat AI is included from Pro upward on the current plans, not a separate add-on.

If any of those describe you, the per-contact bill is the price of something you are actually using, and you should stay.

What a flat model looks like instead

Full disclosure, since we sell one: BuzzWire is Instagram-only and does not meter contacts. All three automation types run on the free plan with unlimited automations and no contact caps, so a post that outperforms does not produce an invoice. Pro is $9.99/month and adds in-DM lead capture with CSV export, follower gating and removal of the branding line — see BuzzWire's own pricing and everything in the free plan. The honest limits: Instagram only, one account per workspace, and we capture email addresses but do not send email.

We are a Verified Meta Tech Provider — a Meta business and API-access verification, not a product endorsement; we are not endorsed by or affiliated with Meta or Instagram. Sends run through the official Instagram Graph API and are paced deliberately — specifics on our compliance page, platform constraints in the rules Instagram actually enforces. No tool can guarantee against account action by Meta. For a wider view, our roundup of free Instagram DM automation tools includes competitors we lose to.

FAQ

How much is ManyChat per month? Free is $0 for 25 Active Contacts. Month-to-month paid plans are $17 (Essential, 250 contacts), $39 (Pro, 2,500), $99 (Business, 7,500) and $199 (Advanced, 25,000). Annual billing is $168 / $348 / $828 / $1,668 charged once, which is where the "$14 / $29 / $69 / $139" figures come from. Per-contact overages apply above each allowance.

Is ManyChat free forever? Yes, with no expiry — but it is capped at 25 Active Contacts a month, 4 live automations, 2 channels and 1 seat, and it adds a "Powered by Manychat" line to the first DM you send someone.

What is an Active Contact in ManyChat? A real person you interact with during a monthly billing period, through messages or automations. Multiple messages from the same person count once that month; the same person counts again next month if they write again. Deleting a contact does not undo this month's count.

What happens if I go over my ManyChat contact limit? On paid plans you are billed per extra contact at your plan's overage rate — $0.10 down to $0.004 depending on tier, and lower again on annual billing. You can cap it in Settings → Billing → Subscription.

Is ManyChat cheaper than the alternatives? It depends on your monthly Active Contacts, whether you need more than Instagram, and whether you pay monthly or annually. Below a few hundred contacts on one channel it is competitive; above a few thousand the per-contact model is what makes it expensive next to flat-rate tools. Our comparison page runs the numbers side by side.

Is ManyChat safe to use for Instagram DM automation? It runs on Meta's official API, which is the part that matters — risk in automated DMs comes from how a tool is configured and paced, not from automation as a category. We cover what Meta publishes in our post on Instagram DM automation rules.

Does ManyChat have a pricing calculator? Not one that outputs the plan-crossover arithmetic above, though it does publish a WhatsApp campaign calculator for template-message costs. You can reproduce the Active Contact maths from the published rates in a minute.

Is Manychat AI an extra cost? No. On the current plans it is included from Pro upward.
